Ricky Jorgensen is by no means any ordinary man. As a successful
business owner in the Heating & Air Conditioning field, Ricky was
afforded one of his favorite pastimes, flying. At the age of thirty-two
Ricky received his private pilot's license. When work and weather
permitted Ricky flew every opportunity made available to him.
During his tenure as a pilot, Ricky flew five different aircraft, as well
as being involved in R&D of experimental aircraft. Having started to
build his own plane Ricky found that between work and flying there
wasn't much time available to complete his project. After searching
for several months Ricky found for sale, a small, two-seater aircraft
named the “Sonerai”. The owner flew the Sonerai from Georgia to
Ricky’s home in Victoria, Texas. Then the fun began! For two
months Ricky flew every opportunity availed to him. He was having
a love affair with his new plane, as would any pilot who was the
proud owner of their first plane!
On May 31st of 2000 Ricky was preparing for a cross-country flight.
Shortly after take-off, something went terribly wrong! The aircraft
suddenly went in to a spinning dive. Ricky did everything possible
in order to recover from this fatal situation to no avail. As Ricky and
his plane spiraled toward the ground his whole life passed in front
of him. He thought about his wife and their daughter. Then he
heard a voice tell him, "Whether you live or die, everything will be all
right". Then the small plane impacted the ground at 186 mph. By
some miracle Ricky was alive and alert, however he had been
seriously injured. After taking firefighters 45 minutes to get Ricky
out of the aircraft, he was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Ricky was
losing blood fast as well as suffering from multiple fractures in both
of his legs, including a compound fracture of his right ankle known
as an “Aviators” fracture. At the hospital doctors were very
concerned. Both knees had been broken to bits! Due to the
severity of the damage to both of his knees Ricky may have needed
to have both of his legs removed. Fortunately, one surgeon was
determined to save Ricky's legs. After an extremely long operation
Ricky's legs had been stabilized with external fixators. These are
long screws that penetrate into the leg bones with rods connected
to them from the outside of the legs. There was a very strong
concern whether Ricky would make it through the night. Ricky did
make it through the night and spent several days in intensive care
before going to a regular room where he spent the next three weeks.
Ricky faced a long road ahead of him and now found himself
confined to a wheelchair. Unable to operate his business any
longer, Ricky soon found that he was in financial ruin. He lost his
business, his home, his land and his vehicles. He also faced eleven
operations throughout the next 3 ½ years in order to repair all of the
damage to Ricky's legs. As a result Ricky became extremely
depressed. He was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder
and was admitted to a psychiatric ward. Ricky found himself again,
in a fight for his life. After all of his re-constructive surgeries and
therapy, Ricky started to regain some order in his life. Ricky
resigned himself to the fact that he would be in a wheelchair for the
rest of his life. During this time Ricky met a wire jewelry artist who
offered to teach Ricky this fine art. Ricky soon found himself getting
a hold of every book and video related to this art and soon started
making wire jewelry pieces - and they were selling! Through Ricky’s
artwork he began to feel his sense of worth return to him and he
truly felt alive again!
Today Ricky is back at the top of his game! As successful wire
jewelry artist Ricky has produced several wire jewelry instructional
DVD’s. They have been picked up in the catalog of a major supplier
of wire working supplies. Ricky's jewelry and his instructional DVD’
s are now being sold internationally. Ricky now maintains this
website, where he has been able to reach hundreds of people &
share with them some of what he knows thru his dvds & offer
affordable supplies for making wire jewelry.
Ricky will never forget the voice that told him as he plummeted
toward the ground "Ricky whether you live or die, everything will be
all right" - and now everything is all right!
TODAY BY THE GRACE OF A POWER GREATER THAN ME, MY
LIFE IS RESTORED BEYOND MY WILDEST DREAMS, I AM ALL
RIGHT.................................
To the wonderful sugeon Dr. Daniel who not only put me back
together & saved my life, But encouraged me to go on with his
kindess & caring towards me like I have never seen from any other
doctor. There is no doubt in my mind that there is a power greater
than all of us working thru this man. Also to his right hand, his
wonderful nurse Billie who not only put up with me but also
comforted me & always gave me words of encouragement that stay
with me to this day. I look forward to seeing her beautiful smile every
time.
But to the most important person thru all of this, my wife Sue. How
many people get a phone call that there husband has been in a
"little airplane crash". Sue has been there thru it all with me. I'm so
lucky that she is also a registered nurse & that I was on her floor
thru all of the operations. One day she's gonna write a book about
all of this. But thru all of this we have grown closer & I have never
known a love like I know now. She has given & continues to give to
me. I would not now be where I am had I not had her support & love.
I can only pray that I am doing the same for her.
